2011 Press Pass Stealth - June 2011

Stealth is here and with a military theme. A set dedicated to honoring those men and women throughout the ages that have served.

Themes are dangerous because they can alienate collectors. This one had collectors excited from the first announcement.

Stealth has gone through many transitions over the years but this one is right on target.

Included in each box is 2 hits, one race used and an autograph. There are also 9 new autograph subjects in stealth.

We start off with the 100 card base set. These cards have a metallic foil background, geometric shape outlining vibrant color photos. It is a really nice looking base set that uses military terms in relation to racing. The cockpit photos on some of these really resemble a fighter pilot. Teammates cards are called strategic alliance.

each base card has two parallels, numbered to either 99 or 25.

There are four insert sets. IN-FLIGHT REPORT, SUPERSONIC, FLY OVER, and MILITARY.

The in flight report is a a cockpit view of the driver. It resembles the cockpit cards from the base set but with a foil finish and the photo fills the card. These are inserted 1:6

Supersonic is a view of the car coming at you with a circular design in the background. Anyone that has ever seen a jet break the sound barrier knows about the vapor cloud that forms around the plane. This is a artist rendition of what that might look like with cars. I do think it would have been cool to do the same insert with a side view of the car going through a vapor cloud. It is a really visually appealing card and is inserted 1:!2.

Flyovers are such a large part of Evey NASCAR race and they rightly deserve their own insert set. This six card set features flyovers by different air force aircraft including the famous thunderbirds. This is a really great idea for an insert set that we have not seen before but I would love to see again. inserted at 1:24.

The last insert set is the Military cards. This five card set consists of one card for each of the five branches. These cards use great photos to truly honor each branch.

There is a zero card also that is a POW/MIA flag. Press Pass was really on top of their game when they decided to include this card. It is inserted at one per 240 packs.

The last of the 2011 NASCAR HOF inductees Lee Petty has his five card HOF set released in Stealth, Again there will be three versions GOLD in hobby, Holofoil /50 in hobby and retail will have the blue version. I do hope they continue this program for years to come.

Now for the hits. As stated earlier there are two hits per box. Some of the race used are four wides, signature series, and the stealth exclusives metal of honor and afterburner. The after burner place the two pieces in position to be the afterburner of a jet. This is a really clever idea and I can not wait to see one in person. The metal of honor is a play on the highest military decoration one can receive.

Both of our race used hits were metal of honor cards.

The autographs in stealth are all on card. There are 9 new drivers with autographs and three levels to collect. Some of the autographs include military inscriptions. These are something new and should be highly sought after for many years to come.

With Stealth Press Pass has giving a new twist on a favorite product. They wanted to bring something new to the collectors while also honoring the military. The amount of effort put into this product is very visible. Since stealth is an air force aircraft is understandable that this product tends to focus mainly on the air force. I would like to see it brought back again each year for the other branches if possible. The cards are very attractive looking and fresh. They will stand out in your set binder.

I think adding the 9 new autograph subjects in is a very positive point also. You never know when one of these new drivers will be the next Jimmie Johnson. I hope with these and the undiscovered element autographs that a trend continues. Trying to get different drivers into the product throughout the year.

I would recommend stealth to anyone looking for a really nice product. For the SRP I would like to see an additional race used or autograph in the product.

I do think that Bud Moore should have been included in this release. At least one card featuring him and his medals. I understand that Most collectors do not want legends in products not named legends. However this set honored the military and an autograph of bud would have been appropriate.

I give this set an A, another hit per box would have been A+

Here are the videos of the box breaks. We had slight technical difficultys. One box we lost power and had to do it in two parts. This threw me for a loop so neither turned out like I wanted but they are ok.

The second cut off at the end but not sure why, all hits were filmed.
