2010 Press Pass - December 13, 2009

Each year Press Pass presents the racing collectors with an early present. That present being the pre Christmas release of the first product of the next season.

This year it is the 2010 Press Pass release. This release is one of their cheapeast releases but also packs a punch. The paper stock is thinner but each box includes a memorbilia card and a cup chase card.

The box includes a magnet schedule which I really like and applaud them for doing. The base set is 129 cards with the last 9 of them forming a puzzle. The puzzle pieces are also short printed. If the puzzle was going to be short printed at least it comes at the end of the set. A preffered way would have been making it an insert set.

One of the subsets is the prelude to the dream cards. These feature the charity race Tony Stewart puts on at Eldora. The cards have pictures from the race and they are really first rate. I would love to see an autograph version in the future.

A standard for this product is the gold parrallels [blue for retail] and they are here again. You get 1 per pack and this makes for a lot of trading to get a complete set. Popular opinion still requests that press pass go back to numbering the parrallels I.E.. 12 G12 B12.

Two of the insert sets look familiar. They are nice cards and driver collectors will enjoy them. The tradin paint inserts should have been called something different since the memorbilia cards share the same name.

A great addition is the new insert set called by the numbers. These diecut cards feature drives with a significant milestone number from their career. It is a 50 card set and will be a challenge to put together. It is a challenge that will be well worth the effort. This set also includes the added challenge of being progressive. With some cards being inserted at 1:3 packs while others are only inserted 1:600 packs.

Another first time insert is the NASCAR HOF set. This set will include 100 card and will be spread out over 10 different Press Pass products. In just the first release of these cards it is already a sought after set.

We hit our guranteed memoribilia hit in both boxes. As a bonus one box included a autograph card.

At first glance the autograph appears to be a sticker but is indeed on card. It is also a new look for the autographs which is a welcome changge.

One box included a Kyle Busch burning rubber card, and the other a Clint boyer Tradin paint card with 2 colors.

These are both serial numbered and the clint boywer is from the brand new for 2010 alternate paint scheme set. The sheet metal is not from the ordinary seen that before car.

An annual hit that is only in this product is the Cup Chase cards. It is the interactive program that enables you to win a 12 card chase set if your driver quailifies for the chase. Also if your driver wins the cup you also receive a memorbilia card featuring the champino. The only drawback I see with this program is the code on the back needs to be hid. Using the silver covering like a scratch off ticket would help the ebay scammers from selling a card they already redeemed. We received a Clint Boywer and a field card.

Every box also has the zero card. This card celebrates the chase for the cup.

This set is a great Christmas present and an excellent product to open with your kids. You know your going to get a memorbilia product for now and a hopefully a chase set later. If your cup chase is the right driver you even get another memorbilia card for it next year.

I wonder if there would be a market for an alternate release of this product.. Something resembling the old maxx tool box sets. Release the same set in a limited number box set with the cards being on thicker stock. Include in it a limited edition autograph.

I do not see anyone being dissapointed with this product. For the price you can not beat the value.

Thank you Press Pass for your donation and we look foward to seeing Element in January.
