2010 Legends October 2010

We all have our favorite sets throughout the year. Well my favorite is the Legends set. The history of the sport always fascinates me and the Legends set best represents that history.

I say sport and not NASCAR because I love all racing history. The legends set crosses the different series.

Each year you wonder if the gurus at Press Pass can top themselves. The first step in doing that is listening to your buyers. They have done that and it shows.

Some of the previous years standard drivers have been replaced. Gone are the Marvin Panch, Rex White and Glen Woods among others. Introduced are Paul Goldsmith, Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney.

Last year one of the smaller complaints was doing a multi autograph card for example the force family, without doing individual autographs of them. This year every driver in the dual autographed cards has an individual autograph.

The base set has been expanded this year to 80 cards. The looks of the base cards this year eclipse previous years. The background colors are spectacular and the photos even better.

The legends card borders are brown with current drivers being beige with few exceptions. The base cards also have a copper/bronze foil which accents perfectly against the background. The various subsets of the base grouping have race used and autograph versions also. The 80 card base set with only 18 packs per box makes completing a whole set in one box impossible.

Each base cards have degrees of parallels also. Including a 1/1 solo version.

The insert sets are even harder to complete. First the Motorsport Masters set is on canvas stock and inserted 1 per 5 packs. This is a 20 card subset with four levels. There are autographed versions of this card also which have look spectacular.

The Make and Model set features cars throughout the years and is a 9 cards set. At only 1 per box and four levels also the inserts should carry their value for a long time.

The greatest part of the Legends set is you get 6 hits out of 18 packs. Those are great odds in any sport. That works out to 3 autographs and 3 race used in every box.

The autographs we received were all numbered to 99 or less with the rarest being /10. Paul Goldsmith is our most common at /99. Some may say what kind of "LEGEND" is he. He won 9 races in cup which ranks him 58Th in all time wins and even raced formula one 3 times.

Race used are many collectors favorites and this years are thick. They make for a nice card and the piece is recessed in the card which will hopefully make fraud even more difficult.

This years Legends set is so far superior to prior years that its unreal. The attention to detail in the product is evident and when you read the check list you can tell they listen to the collectors. There are a lot of us asking for announcers to be added and they did it. Some wanted thicker cards and they did it.

Collectors complained about some drivers being played out and they were replaced. The additional NHRA drivers that they have added is incredible. These are some of the biggest names the sport had ever seen.

The product is a must have for all racing collectors. Press Pass has set the bar even higher than normal with this set. If this set is any indication 2011 should be out of this world.

My bias for this set aside its an A++, and I can not wait to see what next year brings.
