2010 Elements - January 22, 2010

The second release of Press Pass Element hits you with a bang before you open the box.

First off you have Danica Patrick on the box top. She was signed shorty after signing with Junior Motorsports to be on the box and wrappers.

Second the box is designed to resemble the front end of a race car. The front of the box even has headlights. It is details like this that might entice a non collector to pick up a box.

Element uses recycled paper to produce this years cards. The design reminds me of the baseball and football cards I collected as a child.

The base set consists of 100 cards which you receive all of in one box. There is a contest based on the first 21 cards. If you go to orderofelements.com they will give you one hint a week. The first person that emails the correct answer [to how the order was picked] wins a complete 2010 element 1/1 autograph set.

There are two parallel sets of the base cards. In honor of recycling the first has a green outside border. The second parallel set is blue and numbered to 35.

Element has two insert sets. The first is 10 in 10, it features 10 drivers to watch in 2010. I like the design of the card. It features the drivers photo but the background uses the colors, sponsors in a hurricane looking design.

The second insert set and my favorite is the High Octane Vehicle set. It is a 12 card set that features different cars that have made an impact on NASCAR through the years. Some of the cards feature cars that you don't normally see in todays sets. Wendell Scott who crossed the racial lines in an environment no where near as friendly as Jackie Robinson had in baseball is one of those.

Each box contains one autograph and one memorabilia card. The autograph is a similar design to signings of the past, but with a much fresher look to it. They are colorful with different themes [draft, fire, fuel, drive].

The memorabilia cards we received were the flagship performers. Each being a race used flag card. Unlike last year in which they were shaped like a waving flag this year they are numbers. The card has been punched out with a number relating to the drivers finishes. The flag swatch is behind the cut outs giving it a really nice effect. Bot of ours were numbered to 20 with the Kurt Busch being a door number.

Also inserted in the boxes are the HOF cards. These cards are being released one per box in every release this year. They are great looking and while completing the set will take patience it will be well worth it.

Press Pass had to find a way to make the element a fresh product and remain as popular as last years inaugural release. They have done it. By giving us a product that doesn't look like anything we have seen in racing before but still bringing back memories with its look.

The autographs and race used cards are done really well and give us a new look for our collections.. The collation was perfect and the set only has minor flaws. One being the yellow ink on the back of the base cards is really hard to read and would have been better left out of the color scheme.

The blue parallels are in a silver foiled mystery pack that could also contain the undiscovered element autographs. The sample boxes do not have the mystery packs in them and that is a plus. This means that they are where they should be in the customers boxes. Also the 20.00 and 100.00 bills are placed in the mystery packs as well.

Press Pass you did it, you made a better product that last years release. Based on what we have seen with the eclipse samples inserted in the boxes 2010 is going to be a great year for racing collectors.
