Press Pass Box Review - May 31, 2009

The Staff and members of N.U.T.S would like to thank Trevor and Press Pass for everything they do for the hobby. We would also like to thank them for this very generous gift for us to break review and give away.

The first box I broke being 2009 stealth.

I was amazed at the vibrant colors in this years stealth. I have bought stealth before but I think the coloring is much better in 09.

The card itself is still the thick stock we have come to enjoy with the chrome cards.

I didn't come across a lot of doubles when opening the packs and only ended up with 5 in the end. We did end up 1 base card short [received the variation]. The base card that we ended up short was card 71 [Carl Edwards]. The really strange thing about this both boxes had the same card missing.

The one card shortage is insignificant because we have 5 doubles that we can trade to get that base card.

The mach 09 cards are extremely attractive but a lot of trading has to be done to complete the set.

I would actually prefer the mach 09 cards to the other insert set in stealth.

That is the Personal Confidential cards which this year had thee levels. I only pulled the bronze and silver versions. We missed out on the top secret pull /25

I think they should have left out the bronze version and put another mach 09 or two per box.

My first hit was a big one, it was the Jeff Gordon gold signings. The gold this year are the base signings. It appears to be a new picture and style that is going to be a great addition to anyone's collection. There are 5 levels of signings in this release.

I also pulled an allgiers autograph card that was numbered. It looked just as good as the Gordon and should be a much sought after card in the near future.

I personally would like to thank Press Pass on not making 1/1s. The numbered /15 is a much better quantity for collectors.

I pulled 2-3 variation cards and another shout out to press pass on these. The variations are fun and have become extremely desirable to collectors.

The variations in stealth were even better because there were significant differences in the cards. You didn't have to count dots or detect slight changes. Making these easily noticed. Also when they are put into pages the cards look different but the same.

The Battle armor was my last hit from this box. It was a level 2 numbered 16/25, even though its a one color piece the card is striking. Numbering that low should warrant more colors since the truex numbered much higher was multi-colored.

Overall This box was an A. We beat the odds on hits and the product is spectacular looking. I would have given an A+ if we could have completed a full base set.

I would recommend this product to anyone looking for high quality and 2 nice hits. The chrome is perfect for a once a year set.

One thing I would have liked different is on the signings cards. The picture on the back would have been better used for a car photo.

Oh and it was mentioned and agreed by a few people. We would like press pass to mark the parallels in the number i.e.. 23 X23 LX23.

The second box I busted was the 2009 signature series football. This sets has a lot of the draftees for 2009.

as mentioned in the sell sheet and on the box you receive one autograph or one game used card IN EVERY PACK.

The average pack contained 3-4 base cards. an insert and the hit.

The base cards have a really nice design with some great action shots. On the front you have an action shot in the players college uniform. Also typed at the bottom is the team that drafted the player. The backs of the cards give you the players vitals, college stats and a brief write up. This way if you didnt know the player before you can know him now.

There are three different inserts in the set.

There is the double feature which has two players from rival schools. On the back it has a brief description of how they stacked up to each other. This is my favorite of the three inserts

The second insert is the class of 2009 cards. These feature one player with a brief write up on back. These are my least favorite of the three because I think this is all covered in the base set.

The last insert set is the headliners. They are printed with a picture of the player and what appears to be a newspaper article behind him. On the back a brief highlight of the players college career is written.

The headliners are foil cards which are easily dinged on the corners. All three inserts are foil like and catch prints better than a CSI episode.

The main draw to this set is of course the number of autographs and game used cards. This set is a prospectors dream. You never know which of these draft picks will be the next Walter Payton, Roger Staubach, or Peyton Manning. The low level autograph today can be tommorows Diamond.

Press Pass needs to be commended on getting these autographs on card. For those of us that do not like sticker autos this is a great set for you.

There are different levels of autographs including some inscriptions. While I did not pull any inscriptions I did get an autograph to /99 and one to /50.

The backgrounds are taupe so the photography and autograph really stand out on these.

I averaged 9 autographs per box. This set is an autograph hounds dream.

The game used are also great looking. The swatches appear to be new but do say they were worn during the players college career. Some of these are numbered also and if you are one to get cards signed the bottom of these contain enough white area to allow the autograph to shine.

I think I enjoyed opening this set even better than stealth. With racing you know what a card is worth as soon as its pulled. With these the possible value doesnt appear for years. It was really cool looking and wonering who will be the big dawg of this set in the future.

The only problem I have with ths set is not completing the base set is dissapointing. It is only a 50 card set. If press pass eliminates one of the insert sets next year maybe a complete set will be possible.

I really enjoyed getting an autograph in every pack and would love for press pass to make a truck/nationwide set using this box as an example. 12 packs 9 truck autographs and 3 race used cards per box. Sounds like a great idea to me.

I would give this set an A also for the amount of autographs. It is a high quality set that can be a joy to open.
